DOUGLAS, Ariz. – Douglas residents are advised to avoid “unnecessary” travel into Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico Monday morning.

According to the Douglas Police Department, they received reports of sustained automatic gunfire in Agua Prieta at approximately 3 a.m.

“There is no spillover or threats to Douglas or Cochise County at this time,” said the department on a Facebook post.

As a precaution, Cochise County Sheriff’s Department is increasing patrols, according to Carol Capas with CCSO.

Local, state and federal agencies are reportedly actively monitoring the situation.
