Oak Street to open 3 Detroit health centers for seniors – Crain’s Detroit Business

February 14, 2020

Oak Street Health plans to open three new health centers for seniors on Medicare in Detroit later this spring at unspecified locations.

The Chicago-based primary care senior clinic company also operates five other centers in Southeast Michigan and two in Flint. The clinics offer holistic health care with physical, behavioral, pharmacy and podiatry services.

Since its founding in 2012, Oak Street Health has opened more than 50 clinics in seven states and has seen a 41 percent reduction in patient hospital visits compared to Medicare benchmarks, the company said.

“We are deeply committed to providing integrated, preventive care that helps seniors live their best lives, and our planned growth for early 2020 reflects this commitment,” Tamara Jurgenson, Oak Street’s chief growth officer, said in a statement.

Last April, Oak Street opened two outpatient centers in Flint to serve the senior population. Oak Street contracts with Health Alliance Plan of Michigan as an in-network provider, but has contracts with other Medicare plans.

Oak Street care teams typically spend 20 to 40 minutes per patient visit, twice the industry average, and offer a 24-7 support line for patients. The centers also offer free transportation to and from appointments.
